ABOUT AGI -- The American Geological Institute is a nonprofit federation
of 44 geoscientific and professional associations
that represents more than 100,000 geologists, geophysicists, and other
earth scientists. Founded in 1948, AGI provides information services
to geoscientists, serves as a voice of shared interests in our profession,
plays a major role in strengthening geoscience education, and strives
to increase public awareness of the vital role the geosciences play
in society's use of resources and interaction with the environment.

Geoscience Currents #12 examines the current age distribution of geoscience faculty in the United States by rank. As expected, the average age of a given faculty rank increases as the rank increases. Of note also is that the cross-over point of full professors and emeritus faculty is in the early 70s.
